Introducing the new LimaCharlie website & why it matters for security teams
Ross Haleliuk
We are very excited to announce the launch of the new, improved LimaCharlie website (yes, this one!). The new site allows content to load faster, and, enhanced by a polished design, reflects the level of professionalism we exemplify. Overall, the new website facilitates a clear understanding of the value proposition our product encompasses.
However, these are not the only reasons why we are so excited about it.
Initially, basic functionality was key
When we started LimaCharlie back in 2018, our focus was simple: to give security teams full control over how they manage their security infrastructure. We wanted to enable them to get full visibility into their coverage, build what they want, control their data, get the security capabilities they need, for however long they need them, and pay only for what they use.
In other words, we focused on the most important part, the product. Marketing was secondary; most customers would come from word of mouth, so we decided to build the LimaCharlie marketing website on Squarespace.
Squarespace is a good platform to get a website live in a few hours. It’s a reasonably priced, no-code, drag & drop tool that does the job quickly and effectively, when custom design, efficiency, and scale might not be as imperative.
The ability to control one’s destiny is a sign of maturity
Soon enough, we reached a point where the needs of our site required a less restrictive host. As LimaCharlie onboarded more and more customers, refined our messaging, and made the value proposition of security infrastructure as a service clear, the limits of Squarespace started to show.
The ability to control one’s destiny is a sign of maturity. Our website story is a great allegorical example of what security professionals go through as well. When you have one tenant to manage with ten endpoints across the same platform and one analyst, you can stitch a few open-source tools together and get the job done. However, as your business grows, that approach will naturally outlive itself. As soon as a company is looking for a scalable solution that removes the need for managing their infrastructure, that’s when they come to us.
It’s all about timing
Squarespace is great. So are the open-source tools, security software built in-house, or “free” solutions that give you a widget but can poach your customer. It’s important to know what you need and to get the timing right. Make a change too soon - and you are investing what seems like a lot of effort for what seems like little value. But wait too long, until you’ve got thousands and tens of thousands daily visitors (or 50 tenants with 1000 endpoints each), and making the change becomes very hard.
We are happy to have grown. The new website allows us to deploy web projects with the best front-end developer experience and highest end-user performance. Check our new website out, and let us know what you think.
